SkillSignature / Credential integrity

Credential standard

A credential is a dated assessment record—not a guarantee of employment, identity or future performance.

What the verification record discloses

  • Unique credential ID and a shareable verification URL.
  • Exact assessed skill, recorded standard version and proficiency level.
  • Issue date, scheduled review date and any recorded expiry policy.
  • Recorded methodology and public-safe evidence scope, without exposing private submissions.
  • Current issuer status and a private suspected-fraud reporting route.
  • Issuer-recorded assessment facts separated from self-reported profile information.

Missing information is labelled as not recorded, never inferred as a verified fact. New independent credentials capture the skill name and version at issuance and summary counts of submitted evidence and participation; counts alone do not prove every item was examined. Existing credential IDs and verification URLs remain unchanged.

Review dates are not automatic expiry

A scheduled review date indicates when reassessment is due. It is not an automatic expiry date. Where no expiry policy is recorded, the page says so. Suspended, revoked, expired, pending and failed credentials must not be treated as currently verified; consult the live status before relying on any record.

Company-issued credentials are different

Company credentials record an issuer's own claims and are not SkillSignature independent skill verification. A company-issued title or description does not establish an independently assessed proficiency level. Missing assessment, evidence and review details remain explicitly undisclosed.

Portability readiness · not implemented

Open Badges and verifiable credentials

SkillSignature does not currently issue signed Open Badges or claim verifiable-credential compatibility. An unsigned data export or a shareable web page is not a cryptographically verifiable credential.

Before enabling portable issuance, implementation must validate the selected standard version and profile, issuer identifiers and public-key resolution, subject binding and consent, protected signing-key management and rotation, signature verification, machine-readable status and revocation, evidence privacy, schema validation and independent wallet/verifier interoperability. Official certification must not be claimed without the relevant conformance process.
